BMW 7 Series: Removing And Installing/Replacing Right Tension Spring With Damper For Tailgate

Necessary preliminary work

  • Remove right LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH PANEL.

WARNING: Support tailgate in fully opened position with suitable apparatus. Danger of injury!

Press retainer (1) together.

Ball socket (2) jumps out of ball stud.

WARNING: The tailgate will drop down if it is not supported.

Unhook tension spring with damper (1) from tailgate hinge (2).

Installation note: On refitting the tension springs (1), these have to be bent to the original condition by hand.
